Skate or Roller Conveyors?
Date Posted:25 August 2023
Choosing between a skate conveyor and a roller conveyor depends on your specific requirements and the type of items you'll be transporting. Both options have advantages and disadvantages and MHA provide both skate and roller conveyors.
Roller Conveyors:
Roller conveyors consist of a series of rollers mounted on a frame. The rollers can be powered or gravity-fed. They are great for transporting materials with a smooth and flat bottom surface, including boxes, totes, and pallets. Roller conveyors are good for moving heavy loads as the rollers are designed to handle substantial weight. Roller conveyors offer consistent and controlled movement of items, which is useful for assembly or packaging lines.
MHA’s Poly Roller Conveyor Kits are the simple solution for moving all types of products in industries such as transport, distribution centres, container unloading and similar. These conveyors are designed to improve efficiency distribution and line links between different stages of production of your product.
The Flexible Expanding Roller Conveyors are designed to best suit odd shaped cartons and bags of goods which skate wheel conveyors won’t move.
All of our Roller Conveyor bends have been designed to be self-tracking and free moving, making them suitable for various operational warehouse environments.
Skate Conveyors:
Skate conveyors feature wheels or ‘skates’ mounted on axles to move items. They are usually less robust than roller conveyors. They are better suited for lightweight items, small packages, and irregularly shaped items that might not work well on roller conveyors. Skate conveyors are usually less costly and easier to install than roller conveyors. They are a good choice for temporary setups or situations where flexibility and adaptability are important. However, they might not be as suitable for heavy loads or for items that require precise positioning, and Roller conveyors would be the preferred choice.
MHA’s Expanding Nylon Skate Conveyor is excellent for truck and container unloading as well as assembly lines. It’s great for unloading boxes and small products in warehouses of any kind.
The Flexible Expanding Skate Conveyors expands from 1100mm to 4000mm and is also excellent for truck and container unloading. Self-tracking and flexible these conveyors are a great solution to moving and transporting smaller items in warehouses or distribution centres.
As can be see, a roller conveyor is a better choice if you need to transport heavy loads or if you require consistent movement of your goods. However, a skate conveyor is a better option if you’re working with lighter items and need flexibility in your set up.
