Difference between powder coated and galvanized bollards

Powder-coated and galvanized bollards are two methods to protect and improve the durability of bollards, which can be used for various purposes such as traffic control, security, and architectural design.

There are various differences between powder-coated and galvanized bollards;

Galvanized Bollards:

Galvanization is a process that involves coating the bollard with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion and rust. Galvanized bollards are typically made of steel, and the zinc coating provides excellent rust resistance, making them suitable for outdoor use in harsh weather conditions. MHA’s Galvanized Bollards are great for protecting edges of roller doors from truck damage. Galvanized bollards usually have a silver-grey, matte look. They have the natural look of the zinc coating, which can be appealing for certain applications. Galvanized bollards are known for their long-lasting durability. The zinc coating provides excellent protection against corrosion, making them good for high-traffic areas and locations with exposure to harsh environmental conditions. Galvanized bollards are more expensive upfront but tend to be more cost-effective in the long run due to their extended lifespan and minimal maintenance requirements.

Powder-Coated Bollards:

Powder coating is a finishing process where a dry powder is applied to the bollard's surface electrostatically and then cured with heat. It forms a protective layer on the bollard, mainly for aesthetics and to prevent corrosion to a certain extent. MHA’s Powder coated Yellow Bollard offers some protection, but is not quite as corrosion-resistant as the galvanized bollards are. Powder coating allows for a wide range of colour options and finishes, making it more versatile for matching the bollards to specific design or branding requirements. They can also be modified to fit several colour schemes and aesthetics. While powder-coated bollards offer durability and can endure normal wear and tear, their protection against corrosion is not as strong as galvanized bollards. They may require more frequent maintenance and repainting to maintain their appearance and protection. Powder-coated bollards are more affordable upfront, but ongoing maintenance costs for repainting or touch-ups could add up over time.
